Salvation according to John 4 Friday, Oct 31 2008

John 4:13 whoever drinks the water Jesus gives will never thirst, the water He gives will become a spring of water welling up to eternal life

4:21 God’s worshipers must worship in spirit and truth

4:26 I who speak to you am he (Jesus is the Messiah)

6:48 Unless you see signs and wonders, you will never believe.  …to royal official…  Your son will live.

First miracle – Cana, water into wine at the wedding

Second miracle – Cana, raising to life dead son of royal official

Salvation according to John, chapter 3 Thursday, Oct 30 2008

3:3 no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again (Greek – born from above)

3:5 no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit  (water = baptism, purification)

3:15 everyone who believes in him may have eternal life (high quality of life in living fellowship with God—now and forever)

3:16 any who believe in him (Jesus) shall not perish, shall have eternal life

3:17 God did not send his Son to condemn but to save the world

3:18 whoever believes in him is not condemned; whoever does not believe stands condemned because he has not believed in the name of Jesus

3:33 the man who accepts Jesus’ testimony certifies that God is truthful

3:36 whoever believes in Jesus (Son) has eternal life (present/future); whoever rejects Jesus will not see life; God’s wrath remains on him (God opposes all evil)

Salvation according to John, chapter 2 Wednesday, Oct 29 2008

2:11 first time he revealed his glory (turned water into wine at a wedding)

[it sounds as if his mother was the only one who knew what he did]

2:14 chased sellers/buyers out of edge of temple; temple is not a market

[they were selling animals/birds to be used in worship/sacrifice inside the temple.  Gentiles came to pray in this "outer edge," so the commerce was going on in their prayer area.]

2:19 Destroy this temple (his body, not the temple that took 46 years to build); I’ll raise it in 3 days

2:22 when he was raised from dead, disciples remembered and believed Jesus’ words

2:23 many saw miraculous signs [no details] and believed in his name  (name = whole person, Jesus)

They were believing because of the miracles.

Jesus is believable and grace and truth are available through Jesus.

Salvation according to John, chapter 1 Tuesday, Oct 28 2008

Someone recently mentioned the purpose of some of the books of the Bible.  Three were mentioned:  Salvation?  book of John; How to live as a Christian?  Epistles; Wisdom? Proverbs.  This interested me, so I’m going to do a slow reading looking for each of those.

This morning I read John 1. (The New International Version—NIV—Study Bible, 10th Anniversary Edition, 1995)

1:4 In him was life

1:12 all who receive and believe are given the RIGHT to be children of God

1:14 the law was given through Moses; grace and truth through Jesus Christ

1:24 Jesus, the Lamb of God, takes away the sin of the world

1:33 John baptized with water; Jesus baptizes with the Holy Spirit

I’m going to think and try to be receptive to what the Bible is saying.  I’ve heard so many sermons that I’m trying to understand this fresh, as if it is all new to me.

Last rose of summer from my garden Monday, Oct 20 2008

My roses bloomed through three frosts.  Today I clipped them and threw them away, except for this one.  I just couldn’t throw this beauty away…yet.

My first effort to compost Tuesday, Oct 14 2008

This wire fencing is what I bought to make an “invisible” trellis for my clematis.  It came in a fairly large roll and has been sitting in my kitchen.  Boodley said chicken wire could be used for a compost container and the light bulb went on!  This fencing has fairly narrow openings; once the leaves are smashed in here, I think they will stay…mostly; the wind blows southwest into that corner most of the time.  The house and the fence should keep it from going anywhere (I hope).  I made two containers and plan to make another that I’ll place inside my back yard.  With the grasses, it will hardly be visible unless one wants to see it.  Two more pictures are on my flickr site.

My new “Little Pink” Saturday, Oct 11 2008

This little light is supposed to “bring the power of natural light indoors.”  It is a much whiter light than the floor lamp I had been using.  It’s portable, closes when not in use.  It came in the mail just today and I’m happy with it.  This will help as I continue to do work by hand on my quilts.

WWE progress Friday, Oct 3 2008

The World Without End quilt is getting large enough now I can photograph it to give a good idea of how it’s going to look when I’m finished.  There will be 16 rows when it’s finished; I just added the 6th one this evening.
