As I listened to the first debate between Obama/McCain this evening, I finished connecting the fifth row to my World Without End quilt.

There were three overgrown evergreen shrubs along the west. It was past time to prune, but I tried. Two of them were so far gone on the inside, I just kept cutting to the ground. I was able to clean up one of them and it will look fairly nice.
I don’t want more of them, so I’m trying some ornamental grasses. I planted two pampas grasses (may reach 10-15 feet), two zebra grasses (may reach 7 feet), two meadow grasses (may reach 5-6 feet), and one small rounded one that will basically stay as is.
Behind them, in the spring, I want to transplant several hosta, hoping the grasses will provide enough shade to benefit the hosta. I plan to move some larger plants out of the area under my dogwood; those will fill in here, too.
It’s a beginning…
Antique buffet, more Tung Oil Tuesday, Sep 16 2008

Just finished applying the first coat of Tung Oil to the front of this bottom drawer.
I’ve applied at least one coat of Tung Oil to all of the buffet except to the orange strap and below. I’m waiting to remove the strap until that one spot in the right rear has another day of drying for the glue to set.
This piece is just thirsty for the oil. I’m going to apply three coats before I consider it ready to use, but I’m getting there.

This morning I applied the second coat of Tung Oil to just the top then I buffed it as directed. It is so beautiful I had to post this step.
Lots more to do, but I’m getting excited!!

The back braces for the top half (mirror portion) have been glued and are drying.
I’ve applied Tung Oil to just the top of the buffet, plus, I’ve added new casters to the feet. The inserts were already there for the casters, but since we’ve owned this piece, it didn’t have them. If it had, it might not have been jarred apart when it was moved.
One more coat of Tung Oil to the top, then I plan to put the top and bottom halves together. Right now I’m waiting for glue and Tung Oil to dry and set.
