Antique buffet restoration Saturday, Aug 30 2008

Getting all of the back boards fitted in the side slots and fitted into each other was a chore.  Plus I had to put the center main board back several times as it would slip out and fall.  I think they’re in place correctly.  I feel as if I’m working on a huge jigsaw puzzle.  This is more physical effort than I’d expected; some of the main boards are very heavy.  I’ve been thankful for my wooden mallet to help me tap/pound pieces in place.  I’ve glued ends and when all of this dries, I’ll need to use a few small nails to reinforce.

Petra, of course, thought the open space for the top two drawers was her little opening to get inside.

A little progress on WWE quilt Friday, Aug 29 2008

The TOP of the quilt is running down the left side, but I wanted to show more of it in one photo.

Four strips are finished.  I’ll press the blocks for the next row and begin connecting them soon.

Buffet in pieces Wednesday, Aug 20 2008

The mirror is face down; boards have been glued back together; buffet is also face down.

Waiting for the glued boards to dry so I can begin putting the back together.

Taking this apart was harder than it looks.  These old pieces are heavy!

Clematis – what’s left after the petals fall Tuesday, Aug 12 2008

When the clematis blossom is finished, one is to take off what’s left…deadheading.  I was out mowing the lawn, doing some weeding and decided to pull off the leftovers.  They are so amazing I brought them inside and photographed them.  Can’t bring myself to throw them away yet.

Log Cabin work in progress Friday, Aug 8 2008

Couldn’t sleep.  Was arranging these in my head so I decided to get up and do it.  Before I finish, I’ll have two quilts overlapping on my guest bed.  At the top, over the pillows, are the first two strips of the World Without End quilt.  I just had to get these Log Cabins laid out so I could go to sleep.

Works in Process Monday, Aug 4 2008

My next project.  The back boards are out, the support boards are falling, the bottom drawer is on the floor.  I’m going to clean the parts with denatured alcohol, put each part back together, glue, clamp.  Rub the whole thing with Tung Oil.  Do I know how to do any of this?  No.  I need to buy supplies, take drawers out, lay the thing on its side and begin when I can leave the sliding kitchen door open for ventilation.  Am I totally fearful and intimidated?  Yes.

The stack will become the third row for my WWE.  The blocks are in order; they have been pressed.

I have finished 24 Log Cabin blocks.

This will be my 25th.

When I began the Log Cabin, I stacked up neat piles of color strips.  It has deteriorated to this.  As I need a color, I cut it or choose from the pile.  I’m losing interest in keeping my strips nice and tidy, but the work is continuing.  :)
