A step-off-my-world day Saturday, Mar 29 2008

I needed to get out of the house today so I drove off into the sunshine, planning to visit five quilt shops.

At the first one, Quilt N Go, I found the larger piece on the bottom by RJR.  In real life, the color is a nicer red than shows here; I got 1 3/8 yards on sale.  The top four are each 1/2 a yard; those are from the Big Island Quilt Co, a nondescript front building in a little mall.  But they had the most lovely fabrics!

The yellow with dots and pink with “cookies” are Me and My Sister designs by Moda.  They are so beautifully spring!!

Gifted fabrics Thursday, Mar 27 2008

gift-fabric-web.jpg

Four of us worked together today (knitting, piecing, quilting).  One had “inherited” a box of quilting fabric from a family friend; she brought it today and said I could have what I wanted.

What fun!  Since I’m working on my blue log cabin, most of what I chose could be used in that; however, I couldn’t resist adding a few others, too.

One of the others gifted me with a fat quarter, so this was a wonderful day of gifting…to me!  :)

Log Cabin – three squares Wednesday, Mar 26 2008

Each is different; all have the same dark navy in the right corner and the hot pink in the center.  The other pieces vary.  Individual pictures are on my flickr site.

Log Cabin lights…plus mediums Monday, Mar 24 2008

These new fabrics will give me more choices for my lights (and my mediums).  Dots are new, but I think they will work.

Gypsy Gripper and Log Cabin strips Sunday, Mar 23 2008

log-cabin-strips-2-web.jpg

I’ve cut most of the blues I have into 1 1/2″ strips.  I can see I’m going to need to get some more of the lights; maybe I’ll need more of all the darks/mediums/lights.  I have plenty to make the hot pink flowered square in the center.

This is the Gypsy Gripper, a wonderfully helpful tool to help hold the ruler while I use the rotary cutter.  I’ve also ordered a mini gripper that can be used for smaller/thinner rulers.  This was worth every penny!

WWE 101/224 and Log Cabin 1/? Sunday, Mar 23 2008

log-cabin-1-web.jpg

I’m not sure how big I want this quilt to be, so I have no idea how many I’ll do.  This is an 8″ square, 12 pieces in a square.  It could go on for a long, long time.

I’ve finished 101 out of 224 (45%).  I meant to photograph when I reached 100 but overshot by one.  My next marker will probably be when I reach 50%.  This is “some quilt” as in the words of Charlotte the spider.  :) I am now having to stack pieces along the edges.

Log Cabin square 1 Saturday, Mar 22 2008

log-cabin-square-1-web.jpg

The suggestion is to do half dark and half light, with a red square in the center.  My squares will not necessarily contain the exact same materials, but the general idea will be repeated.  The last two hours flew by as I was engrossed in the puzzle of deciding.

Log Cabin blues Saturday, Mar 22 2008

These are the blue fabrics I think I’ll use for my log cabin quilt.  Of course, as I work, I may eliminate some of the colors or add others.

(I have 98 of the 224 WWE squares finished.  Not quite halfway.)

Log Cabin quilt Friday, Mar 21 2008

log-cabin-cardboard-templates-web.jpg

This morning I cut cardboard templates for my Log Cabin pattern.  This will give me an 8″ square.

Now I need to wash and iron fabric so I can begin cutting.

(I’m not finished with the WWE quilt, but I like to have two projects going at once so I can vary my work.)

WWE 80 out of 224 Saturday, Mar 15 2008

wwe-80-of-224.jpg

I’ve completed 36% of the squares.  Each side will have three more rows.  The center red will have three more rows. The bottom will have three more rows of the tan.

I have an idea of how I’m going to tie the two colors together, but I’ll wait to try it until I have all of the squares pieced together.
